How the Year, Month, and Day Breakdown Is Computed
The calculator does not split the gap into fixed 30-day chunks. It counts calendar months and then borrows real days from the previous month when needed, the same way you would subtract by hand. Take January 10, 2025 to March 5, 2025. Subtracting the day numbers gives 5 minus 10, which is negative, so the tool steps back one month and adds the length of the month it just left. February 2025 has 28 days (2025 is not a leap year), so the leftover becomes 28 minus 5, and the result reads 1 month, 3 weeks, 2 days, with a total of 54 calendar days. Because February's real length is used, the answer shifts by a day between leap and non-leap years for the same start and end.
This is why a spreadsheet DATEDIF, a bank statement, and a phone calendar can report different month counts for one pair of dates: each decides differently whether to borrow from the earlier or the later month.
Difference vs. inclusive count
The tool reports the difference between two dates, not the number of days you touch. Monday July 6, 2026 to Friday July 10, 2026 is a difference of 4 days, but the stay spans 5 days when you count both the Monday and the Friday. That extra day is the "fencepost" you must add by hand for rental periods, hotel nights versus days, medication courses, and contractual notice periods. When both endpoints count, add 1 to the total-days figure.
The February 29 edge case
Start on a leap day and the anniversary is ambiguous because the same date does not exist the next year. From February 29, 2024, the tool treats a full year as landing on March 1, 2025 (exactly 1 year, 366 total days). February 28, 2025 falls just short and is reported as 11 months, 4 weeks, 2 days rather than a round year.
Calendar days vs. working days
The totals here count every calendar day, weekends included. Business days are fewer: a clean 28-day span (4 full weeks) is exactly 20 weekdays, so a 30-day gap works out to roughly 20 to 22 working days depending on which weekday it starts on. Public holidays are not deducted, and those vary by country, so subtract your local holidays separately for payroll or delivery estimates.

A note on hours: this tool measures whole calendar dates, so its hours figure is always the day count times 24. Clock-time tools behave differently across a daylight saving change, where a single local day can run 23 or 25 hours even though the calendar still advances by one day.
