Quick answer

A time zone converter shows what time it is in one place when you know the time in another, adjusting for each location's UTC offset and daylight saving time automatically. For example, GMT to IST is +5:30 and PST to EST is +3 hours. Use the 24-hour grid above to find business-hour overlap for meetings.

What is a Time Zone Converter?

A time zone converter helps you figure out what time it is (or will be) in different parts of the world. It's essential for scheduling international meetings, coordinating with remote teams, or planning calls with friends and family abroad.

The world has over 24 time zones (it's complicated—some are 30 or 45 minutes offset). This tool shows you how times align across multiple zones at once, so you can find times that work for everyone.

Common time zone challenges this solves:

  • Remote work — Coordinating with colleagues in SF, London, and Singapore
  • International calls — Finding a reasonable time to call family abroad
  • Live events — Converting event times for webinars, sports, streams
  • Travel planning — Understanding arrival times after long-haul flights
  • Stock markets — Knowing when NYSE, LSE, or Asian markets open

Common time zone conversions

These are some of the most searched time zone pairs. The values below are standard-time offsets — the base difference between the two zones. When one side is on daylight saving time (DST), the real-time difference can shift by an hour, so always confirm with the live converter above for a specific date.

ConversionStandard offsetNotes
GMT → IST+5:30India Standard Time is 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of GMT. IST does not observe DST.
PST → EST+3:00US Eastern is 3 hours ahead of US Pacific. Both shift together for daylight saving, so the 3-hour gap holds year-round.
UTC → IST+5:30IST is a fixed UTC+5:30. Because UTC and IST never change for DST, this offset is constant all year.
EST → CET+6:00Central European Time is 6 hours ahead of US Eastern in standard time. The gap can briefly change in spring/autumn when the two regions switch DST on different dates.

Offsets are written from the first zone to the second, so GMT → IST = +5:30 means you add 5 hours 30 minutes to a GMT time to get the IST time. Reverse the sign to go the other way.

Best hours for international meetings

The simplest rule for scheduling across distant time zones is the 8–10 AM ↔ 4–6 PM rule: aim for a slot that lands in the early morning (8–10 AM) for the zone that is behind and the late afternoon (4–6 PM) for the zone that is ahead. That window keeps the meeting inside normal working hours on both sides without pushing anyone into the middle of their night.

US-only sweet spot

For meetings that only span the continental United States, roughly 1–3 PM Eastern (10 AM–12 PM Pacific) works for everyone. It clears the West Coast's morning start yet stays before the East Coast's end of day.

When the two zones are far apart — for example the US and India, which are 9.5 to 12.5 hours apart depending on DST — a full overlap is rare. The most humane windows are usually early morning US Eastern ↔ evening India or the reverse. The 24-hour grid above highlights business hours so you can spot the largest overlap for any specific set of cities and date.

  • Pick a target date first — DST can move the overlap by an hour.
  • Rotate awkward slots so the same team isn't always meeting early or late.
  • Always share the time with its zone label (for example 9 AM ET) to avoid confusion.
